Before we do anything please watch the short example below - it will give you a solid overview of what a basic, lead response Carfilm should look like:
Step one is to open the application. If you haven’t downloaded Carfilm yet please refer to the Quickstart Guide and come back to this article once you’ve completed all the steps.
Note: Carfilm is designed to be an extension of your showroom so make sure you’re presenting information to clients the same way you would if they were standing in front of you. Read the lead or complete your qualifying process as directed by your management team. Use the information you’ve collected to present the car on video the same way you would demonstrate the car in person
You’ll see a red button at the bottom of the screen that says “Record Video.” As soon as you press that button your phone’s camera will activate and you’ll be ready to film. Before we continue, take a moment to familiarize yourself with the icons on the screen. There are minor differences between the Apple iOS version and the Android versions of the app:
iOS:
Android:
Note: Like all apps Carfilm is continually working on refinements and enhancements. We’ll update this article as new features become available.
We’re not going to worry about the advanced features for the purposes of the rest of this article - you can check those out HERE when you’re ready. For now, let’s work on making a basic video so you can use Carfilm to sell cars and make money ASAP.
Take a walk to your showroom, pick your favorite car, turn your phone sideways (landscape mode) and press the red record button. Start on the outside of the car and walk around it mentioning things that stand out and make the car unique, then open the driver’s door and sit inside, pointing out some buttons and controls that show off the technology and advanced features your brand is known for - don’t forget to show that odometer reading! When you’re done, press the red “stop” icon.
When you’re ready, click “save.” You’ll see that your Carfilm starts to upload to our servers and it will process for a few moments as well. Once the icon becomes an image of your video, tap into it from your phone and give it a title. Make sure you follow your dealership’s process for naming videos, but if you don’t have specific instructions we suggest the stock number or the client’s name. Under certain circumstances, the client may see the title of your video so make sure you keep it neutral, appropriate, and easy for you to refer back to.
When it comes time to send your video to your client make sure you follow your dealership’s instructions so that you comply with the sales process in your store. If you don’t have a defined process there are a few ways to send videos - either directly from your phone or from your CRM using the browser extension.
To send from your phone simply select the video you made and click the blue “Send Video” button. Then click text, copy link, or email. Clicking text will open your phone’s texting client and you can select a contact from your phonebook. Copying a link will allow you to paste a link into any application you’d like - a social media account, an email, a messaging service like WhatsApp, etc. Clicking email will allow you to copy a thumbnail to paste into the body of an email you’re sending - perfect for adding a visual cue and a call to action.
To send via your CRM simply go back to your desk, open the client record, and click either email or text depending on what your CRM supports and how you’d like to reach out to your client. You should see a Carfilm icon that wasn’t there before - just click on it to access your full video library, select the video you want to send, and either copy the link for texting or copy the email thumbnail for email. Then type an email and send it as you normally would.
NOTE: If you don’t see a Carfilm icon you may not have installed the browser extension mentioned in the QUICKSTART GUIDE. Please refer back and make sure you’ve completed that step. If you’re still having trouble contact your manager or your Carfilm rep.
Congratulations! You’ve just made and sent your first simple Carfilm. Check out our Advanced Features article to learn about camera tricks, audio recording, video tracking, and more.
